The Nu Project – O Projeto Nu

Women of North America I

The Nu Project is a series of honest nudes of normal women from all over the world. The project began in 2005 and has stayed true to the original vision: no professional models, minimal makeup and no glamour. The focus of the project has been and continues to be the subjects and their personalities, spaces, insecurities and quirks.

To date, over 100 women across North and South America have participated in the project.  Without their courage, confidence and trust, none of this would have been possible. We are so thankful for their willingness to open their homes to us.

If you’d like to get involved as a contributor to our fine art book you can find the information to the right.  If you’d like to sign up for a shoot please visit the participation page for more information.

FAQ

Who may participate?

The project is open to women over 21, regardless of body type, weight, etc…  To that end, it is not necessary to submit nude photographs of yourself with your participation request.

Where do you shoot?

Our current series is set in participant homes.  We are Minneapolis-based, but we often do shoots when we travel.  If you are not based in Minneapolis, but you’d like to sign up, please send us a message on the contact form and we will be in touch if we are heading to your city.

Do you pay me / Do I have to pay you?

Participation in the project is free, but for your time you’ll receive approximately 10 retouched, finished images for your own personal use.  We ask that if you use the images online, you accompany each with a photo credit and link to the Nu Project website.

How long does a shoot take?

Usually around an hour if we’re in the studio and approximately 2 hours if we’re on location.

How long does it take to get my images?

Processing times vary depending on how busy we are with other work.  We will contact you by email when your images are ready.

What are you going to do with the images?

They will be part of this website and blog.  We’re also hoping to publish them in a book.

If I don’t want you to use my images online / in print?

This project is all about the wilingness of the subjects to share their stories in a public way.  We understand that it’s not right for everybody, so if you’re interested in a private shoot that doesn’t get published to the Nu Project, those begin at $1500 and include a print credit.  Please contact us if you want more information.

What’s the next step if I want in?

Please fill out the participation form to the right and you’ll be contacted about upcoming shoots.  Thank you!

Niagara Falls & Chutes de Montmorency

Lindas essas fotos, né? Vieram daqui.

Ah, sim, o verão a aparência é outra, obviamente…;)

“If we were flowers we would worship the sun…”

Flower power, babyyy!!!! 😉

Black roses are truly a thing of beauty. They can express a variety of meanings, and have deep symbolism due to their dark, mysterious color. They are commonly associated with black magic, anarchy, and witchcraft. However, they can also be used to convey rebirth or to express profound love (due to their rarity). Unfortunately, true black roses do not occur in nature. This is probably because no bee would want to fly into a black rose. Kidding! Ok, I honestly don’t know why we don’t have black roses. Regardless, there are some great alternatives out there:

True Black Roses

These are made by injecting black dye it the stem of a (typically) red rose.  The tint will not rub off the petal, however if a stem or petal is cut it can stain clothes, so be careful using them at formal events.  These are the closest thing to a truly black rose.

Baccara Black Rose

These are the closest you will get to a natural black rose.  They are darkest before they bloom, and open to a deep dark red color, with hints of dark blue.  A burgondy/blackberry/blueberry mix of colors, if you will.  They look deceptively black, especially when viewed under low light.  Baccara roses are unique in that they don’t have a flowery smell.  However, the gene that gives roses their botanical smell also takes away from their shelf life.  Because of this, Baccara roses will last a very long time in a vase.

Black Magic Rose

Black Magic roses are another natural rose of the hybrid tea variety.  They have a deep, velvety red color and are highly sought after for weddings and bridal showers.  Not quite as black as the Baccara but still extremely beautiful.

When to Give a Black Rose?

Black roses can be great for Halloween or other types of scary parties. They can also go well with black tie events, as a gift to someone interested in Gothic culture, or even to someone whose favorite color is black. A great way to give black roses is to mix them in with other colors, that way the black will contrast nicely with the lighter, more flowery colors. No matter what the occasion, black roses will be sure to make a beautiful and interesting gift.

In the presence of (Yes)

Deeper than every ocean
Deeper than every river
That’s what your presence brings to me

Revealing the words I listen
Seeing you in my silence
Learning I’m with you constantly
As I was before

If we were flowers
We would worship the sun
So why not now?
This high is shining brightly
Brighter than before

As the door was open wide
There inside was a diamond chair
Where I sat when I was young
I wrote down the words

Only when the young at heart
Can enter the real world
This chance I’ve waited for
For you to see

If I had chances I would spend them with you
To hold you close and let your love surround me
Deeper than before

(Deeper than every ocean)
And I know this love is real
(Deeper than every river)
Realize this is meant to be
That’s what your eyes they say to me
You are listening to how I feel
So expectedly
(Brighter than every morning)
From the ocean to the sky
(Beautiful as the sunset)
Every river to the sea
Nature surrounds me constantly
We can hear love constantly
This is for you and me

Turn around and come deeper now
So what happens when I touch you there
You feel the words roll over you
Thinking of the better scenes
The memories
As everybody else just
Hasn’t got the time
To help you anymore

‘Cause if the reason for
The things that pleasure us
To please ourselves
Not pressure us
To give our ego
Some pleasure time

Can you imagine
Any reason
To know you’re only fooling yourself
And then you’ll understand why
You’ll understand why

So if we choose to realize
All existence is a dream
This perfect resume to you
From me

Just had a tough time with magic
The death of ego
The moon
It was just coming through

Send me such a good time
In a letter form, tell me
The pleasure, no pressure
Pure imagination in a metaphoric dream

I get amazed like a true beginner
I get amazed like a true believer
I get amazed when I see you there
And I come alive

I believe I’m a true beginner
I believe I’m a true beginner
In your arms I can see it all
I can see it all

If we were flowers
We would worship the sun
So why not now?
This light is burning brightly
This light is burning brightly
Brighter than before
Brighter than before
Brighter than before
Brighter than before

Turn around and remember that
When it gets so low
As you finally hit the ground

Turn around and remember that
Now I’m standing tall
Standing on my sacred ground

Turn around and remember that
When it gets so low
As you finally hit the ground

Turn around and remember that
Now you’re standing tall
Standing on sacred ground
Standing on sacred ground
Standing on sacred ground
